Sportivate comes to an end
Sportivate was Sport England's National Lottery funded Olympic and Paralympic legacy initiative, which gives 11- to 25-year-olds who weren't active in their own time, the chance to find a sport they enjoy. The young people are then helped to find a club or venue where they can keep taking part. Launched in 2011, it has seen over £500,000 invested into Cornwall to deliver over 350 projects in the last 7 years. From these 350 projects, the funding has seen over 7000 young people reached and 6500 of these completed 5 out of 6 sessions.
The success of the project has not just been the sheer numbers that have got people more active within the county, but also the personal stories that have been impacted from the funding that Sportivate has provided to allow these session to go ahead. These personal stories led to two national winners of the Sportivate Participant of the year.
Lewis Sanders, Project Co-ordinator for Cornwall Sports Partnership says: "Sportivate has had a huge impact on young people in Cornwall and the numbers don't tell the whole story. 6,500 young people completed of which 2,264 were inactive at the start of the first session. 350 projects were run delivered by over 170 different community organisations who have all made a difference to the health of the young people with in their local communities"
Tim Marrion, Partnership Manager for Cornwall Sports Partnership, has over seen the project since its launch. He comments: "Cornwall Sports Partnership would love to hear from anyone who has benefited within the 7 years of the project. Please get in touch by emailing email@example.com"
