Mental Health Awareness Week Special
Mental Health Awareness Week - The Power of Sport
The facts are stark - sport and physical activity can have big mental health benefits and during #MHAW17 we're putting the spotlight on how sport and physical activity can be used as a powerful tool to improve people's mental wellbeing.
It reduces anxiety and stress, brings a greater sense of calm, increases self-esteem and reduces the risk of depression.
Everyone, regardless of their age, background or level of ability, should be able to engage in sport and physical activity. And we know that sport can go beyond physical benefits, building community cohesion and an individual's self-esteem.
We all know exercise keeps our hearts and bodies healthy. We often talk about the mind and body as though they are completely separate - but they aren't. The mind can't function unless your body is working properly - but it also works the other way. The state of your mind affects your body.
