Sports Awards 17
Nominations are now open for the annual Cornwall Sports Awards, which recognise and rewards the contributions made by our amazing and dedicated coaches, officials, clubs, volunteers and young leaders from across Cornwall.
Cornwall Sports Partnership wants this year's awards to
focus on people and projects within local communities
who are inspiring others to be physically active.
New for 2017!
The theme of the evening is - Recognising Volunteers who inspire others to be physically active and this year sees the introduction of a new award 'Social Impact in the Community'. This has been created to reward and recognise a club / organisation or initiative that has made a measurable social impact on specific individuals or group in their local community.
Cornwall Sports Awards organiser, Natasha Howard of the Cornwall Sports Partnership, said: "We have revamped the awards this year to reflect a broader range of organisations that inspire people to be more active. Alongside traditional sports clubs there are a host of other groups who we also want to recognise.
We are looking forward to reading the nomination forms and some of the amazing stories they contain which we will celebrate on the evening".
Cornwall Sports Partnership is pleased to have Truro & Penwith College and the University of Exeter as the headline sponsors of the 2017 Cornwall Sports Awards.
Ruth Grimmer, Head of Professional Services at the University of Exeter said: "We are delighted to be sponsoring the awards again this year. It forms part of our wider relationship with Cornwall Sports Partnership - sponsoring the School Games, and our work with local junior leagues. So many people give so much of their time in a multitude of ways in support of grass roots to national level sporting activities across the Duchy. Whether players, coaches, umpires, club committee members and those providing refreshments, to the teams who ensure the facilities are there and useable before, during and after activities. The Cornwall Sports Awards are about celebrating everyone's commitment and involvement in whatever way, and we are proud to play a part in supporting".
Vicky Pearson, Sport Team Leader at Truro & Penwith College said: "We are delighted to once again be supporting the Cornwall Sports Awards. As a leading provider of Outstanding sport provision and education in the South West we see the positive impact that sport has on young people, and the adults who support them, each and everyday. Celebrating their successes through initiatives like the Cornwall Sport Awards gives us the perfect opportunity to reflect on these achievements and celebrate the role sport plays on individuals and the communities in which they live".
