Chris said: "it was amazing to see how many inspirational people there is in all areas of sport in Cornwall from young volunteers to those with years of experience of coaching and volunteering, and to be involved in such an occasion was a great way to finish of a great year of sport for me."

With Chris present the evening raised nearly £1,000 for Help for Heroes to support injured servicemen like Chris. The charity actually funded the chair Chris played in at the Invictus Games.

Cornwall Sports Awards organiser, Natasha Howard of the Cornwall Sports Partnership, says:  "We are extremely proud to organise this event which recognises and rewards the many volunteers who give their time to inspire people to get involved in sport.  We encourage them to continue their great work creating a legacy of increased participation and enjoyment of sport throughout Cornwall.  We would also like to say a big thank you to all those who took the time to nominate, without which these awards could not take place."

A variety of Cornish companies and organisations support the event, including: Sport England, Miller Countrywide, Tony Pryce Sports, Cornwall & Devon Media, Pirate FM, St Austell Print, Jamie Spencer Films, St Austell Conference Centre, Clockwork Audio Systems Ltd, The Headland Hotel and the NHS Health Promotion Service.

Adrian Noott from A Game Sports Ltd, one of the main sponsors of this year's Cornwall Sports Awards said: "We were delighted to be given the opportunity to sponsor the Adult and Junior Club categories for this year's sports awards. We, as a business, wouldn't exist without the support from many of the finalists so it's a real honour to be able to give something back to the community in which many of our customers operate."

"The evening can only be described as a very professional and slick operation that really showcases the wealth of talent that exists in the Cornish sporting community and we congratulate all those who were recognised."

Simon Blamey from Tempus Leisure, one of the main sponsors of this year's Cornwall Sports Awards said: "Tempus Leisure endeavours to provide opportunities that inspire active communities across Cornwall and we are delighted to be a lead sponsor for the 2014 Sports Awards. The awards are a fantastic way to recognise the success and hard work of individuals and clubs throughout the county.  A massive congratulations must go to everybody who was nominated and to the Cornwall Sports Partnership for organising such a prestigious evening."
